Explore the charm and beauty of Norfolk, England’s hidden gem. Located in East of England, Norfolk is a peaceful rural county known for its charming villages, historic churches, expansive coastal views, and the distinctive waterways of the Broads. While there are no mountains, you will encounter some gentle hills scattered throughout the area when out cycling. The county is littered with lovely quiet country lanes to cycle, spectacular landscape views to stop and soak up and chocolate box villages waiting to be discovered.
Norfolk is also known for the world-famous man-made Broads—over 125 miles of navigable, lock-free waterways surrounded by countryside and scenic towns. The areas open skies, marshes, reeds, and woodlands provide an ideal setting for both adventure and relaxation.
Norfolk also boasts 90 miles of untouched coastline—stretching to 93 miles when the tide is out—with scenic cliffs, dunes topped with marram grass, and tidal salt marshes. The area is especially known for its clean beaches, which are perfect for swimming, playing games, and building sandcastles. Along the east coast, you'll find beaches like Gorleston, Great Yarmouth, Winterton, Sea Palling, and Horsey. On the North Norfolk coast, Cromer offers a wonderful experience, Brancaster impresses with its vastness, and Holkham/Wells has even been voted Britain's best beach.
One of the best areas to cycle and visit is North Norfolk and base for our four day cycling trip, staying in the Burnham Market area. North Norfolk, home to the Deep History Coast, boasts a distinctive coastline with pristine, award-winning beaches. Venture inland to explore countryside rich in agricultural heritage and discover charming market towns and villages featuring eateries that serve locally sourced, seasonal dishes, as well as unique shops and artisans. The area also offers numerous museums, stately homes, and sites of cultural and historical interest. Situated within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, alongside The Broads National Park and internationally important nature reserves, North Norfolk is a sanctuary for wildlife and birds, making it ideal for walking. As Norfolk is the driest county in the UK, it’s a wonderful destination to visit year-round.
North Norfolk's highlights include Holkham Park estate, the coastal town of Wells-next-the-Sea, Burnham Market ("Chelsea by the sea"), and Burnham Thorpe, Lord Nelson’s ancestral home. These destinations are included in our cycling trip of the area, as well as on our seven-day Rebellion Way cycling adventure.
